Steamboat
Springs, Colorado, or "Ski Town USA", located in the northern
tier of Colorado offers the snow lover a mountain of snow depth and
great terrain year in and year out. This has made Steamboat our top
4 places to ski in Colorado. While the town offers a historic moment
in Colorado ranching history, the ski mountain welcomes with over 2939
acres, of skiable terrain and endless steep glades.

Famous
for the great powder steamboat constantly recieves.
Ski Town, has upheld that reputation
by boasting the oldest Colorado Resort: Howelesen Hill, named after
Carl Howelesen, has produced the most Olympic ski atheltes than any
other ski resort in North America. In 1913, this Norwegian introduced
ski jumping to Steamboat, and was an Olympic ski jumping champion himself.
Familiar names like: Wallace "Buddy" Jerold Werner, Rudi Schnackenberg,
J.H Cooper Schell, Billy Winston Kidd, and Maria Quintana, have multiple
olympic appearances and winter sports resumes long enough to sled on.
They are truly some of the Pioneers that shapped the Yampa valley and
made it into Ski Town USA. These Pioneers, really were skiers, but back
then, they weren't called skiers. They were called, ranchers, farmers
and claim stakers. All who used skis as their way to get around in winter
conditions and to do their work .

Light and fluffy.
Steamboat got it's name from the sound made by one
of the hot springs in the area. It was said to resemble a steamboat
chugging upstream. Even though the town bills itself as Ski Town, USA
the area abounds in year-round recreational activities.

Springs is 166 miles from Denver, 194 miles from Grand Junction,
98 miles from Vail, 209 miles from Colorado Springs, and 345 miles
from Durango. Steamboat does have a regional airports from
connecting light in Denver and Colorado Springs. other regions varry.
To get to Steamboat Spring from Denver or any other fron range city:
Drive west on I-70 until reaching Wollcott. Take highway 131 North
